For many years, Emmaus Åland has been running a summer work camp for volunteers from all over the world.
This year we have decided not to have a short summer camp, but to welcome 3-4 volunteers during at least one month per person from June to August. We are looking for persons over 18 years old, that can use English as a working language and have an interest in social work and recycling/reuse practices.
The volunteer will work with Emmaus at a minimum 5 days a week, 6 hours per day. The work will include gardening, repair work, sorting and packing second-hand clothes, furniture etc. Depending on the time the volunteer arrives, work will also include helping out with events such as the Hiroshima commemoration and the Emmaus festival.
The volunteer will have opportunities to participate in cultural events, discuss Emmaus issues, human rights, environment, visions for the future and co-operation. It is also a possibility to learn more about Åland, the nature and history and the Åland autonomy and demilitarisation.
The volunteer can expect to work in a dynamic and versatile environment, and to work inde- pendently and with co-workers with various tasks. Emmaus Åland will see to that the neces- sary introduction is provided and a contact person is appointed. There will be room for developing own ideas and be creative within the framework of our organisation, if the volunteer so wishes.
At the moment, we do not take applications, since we don't know whether it will be possible for us to welcome volunteers this summer due to the state of emergency and spread of the corona virus.
